Bike Insurance

I was renewing my house insurance and tried to add my road bike to it outside the home. They asked me if I use it for race which I said yes (adventure racing) and they refused to insure it outside the house. I asked could I insure it for when I comute to work with it and they refused. I can understand that they dont want to cover a bike that might get written off in a racing crash but I thought it was a bit mad that they wouldn't insure it all. It is covered if its stolen from the house.

This is not unusual, I've had similar frustrations myself.

Anyone know whether Cycling Ireland have revived their insurance scheme?

I was in a similar situation earlier in the year. In the end I shelled out for racing/training insurance from cyclesure.ie. It was a little painful at just under 10% of the price of the bike and not something I had budgeted for, but I knew I'd never be able to replace the bike if I wrecked it...

It would be nice to see some competition enter that market.

Just a question Rofo on what level of cover you went for. Did you ensure the full value of the bike or mainly the frame replacement? Looking at doing similar but full bike value gets expensive. Cheers, J.

I covered the full value of the bike against accident when training/racing.
