Continuing the series of Real DJ's presents gigs in The Sugar Club (last one sold-out) it's with great pleasure we welcome the legendary AFRIKA BAMBAATAA. Bambaataa, who named himself after a 19th Century Zulu warrior chief, became known as the Grandfather of Hip-Hop. He's often credited with actually coining and naming the whole "Hip-Hop" movement. From his early days as a street gang leader to his influential releases, "Planet Rock" " Looking for the Perfect Beat"  anyone, Bambaataa has stuck to his "Hip-Hop" roots. He's remained active, if not commercially successful, since the early 1980's and in 2007 he was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll hall of fame. His DJ sets span generations of music and in 2012 there's a whole new generation only discovering Bambaataa for the first time. This is after all the 30 year anniversary of "Planet Rock" so what better way to celebrate  than an intimate gig in The Sugar Club. This is real Hip-Hop, forget you're  R'n'B or what people think Hip-Hop is. Hip-Hop is anything goes and in Bmabaataa's own words  "My definition of hip hop is taking elements from many other spheres of music to make hip hop. Whether it be breakbeat, whether it be the groove and grunt of James Brown or the pickle-pop sounds of Kraftwerk or Yellow Magic Orchestra, hip hop is also part of what they call hip-house now, or trip hop, or even parts of drum ’n’ bass." Expect a mish-mash of everything.  Support on the night comes from, Up and coming Dublin Rap 5 piece, The Animators.

You can pay at the door but I'd advise getting a ticket just in case you don't get in...
    Just over 300 capacity.
