    Hi,

I’m just wondering if anyone could clarify something for me.

I started a new job about a month ago. It’s a contract job (for about 4 months) and I don’t get paid until I’ve a certain amount of work completed. I probably won't get paid for a couple of months but I do get paid some expenses, not a huge amount.

I’m basically an outside contractor and I do my own hours to get the job done but sometimes I’m waiting on the company in order to proceed. I probably work 25ish hours a week over 3 or 4 days, but both my hours and days vary on a weekly basis, for instance I couldn’t work today and probably not tomorrow as the company didn’t have the paperwork ready for me.

I rang the Social Welfare Office a few weeks ago and the guy I spoke to said that I could still get the dole as I’m not being paid and it’s not a permanent job but he said that he wasn’t sure and said that I should go into the office (he didn’t ask my name and I didn’t give it).

I’m a bit reluctant to go into the office as if I’m not entitled to the dole then I’ll be very tight for money until I get paid but at the same time I don't want to be receiving it and get into trouble down the road when I do get paid.

Anyone else in a similar position or know what the story is?
    Thanks

Realistically you need to to in and have a chat with them, from my experience and in a similar situation they told my oh to work away and when he finished up to get a letter from job with days worked and salary earned and the would deduct this from our sw entitlement however he did only have a few wks work not mths

I would urge you to go speak to them they aren't monsters honestly and are trying to accommodate people not hinder them, and everyone on here can say this and that, myself included but you are better getting what you need to know from them
