    Hey guys,

I'm currently living in rented accommodation and just paying the TV license for the basic analog channels (no NTL or Sky TV subscription).

Is it up to me to get a Saorview box or is it the landlords responsibility?

    Thanks!

    Sam

It's entirely your responsibility..this doesn't come under the Landlord's obligations. He doesn't have to provide this. Get a Saorview box for €49 in Tesco!

No harm in asking the LL, I'm sure you rented with the understanding that you'd be able to pick up the basic channels

Many landlords don,t provide even a tv, or cable tv, ITS like internet acess ,if the tenant wants it ,They can
    pay for it.
Theres no legal obligation to provide it.
aS in above post, no harm asking for it.

Yeah but picking channels up with an aerial had nothing to do with the landlord at all.

It's not the landlord's fault that the digital switchover is happening.

What stations do you get currently? Out of curiosity.

Theres a new saorview digital terrestial reciever ,49 euro,
    currys dixons shop,
picks up saorview ten stations, records 1 station,
    while you watch another station.
maybe buy it,take it with you when you move out.

i,ve never met a tenant in a flat ,who actually pays the tv license
they usually charge 1 license ,per house, or apartment.
    i know a landlord ,has 3 flats,connected to 1 sky dish,
each flat has a tv and a fta sky box,eg bbc,itv,c4 ,truemovies etc, music channels are free to air.
you can buy a skybox on adverts ie for 30 euro.
dont get a box ,unless it has 2 tuners, record 1,watch another channel.
    analog channels,means rte1,2,tv3. tg4.
they should make people in prison watch tg4, it would be a good
    punishment.
if you are renting a house,or apartment, i,d presume you can afford to buy
    a saorview box.

A sky box is not going to be much use to most people in apartments as most apartment buildings do not permit the tenant putting up a dish.

Also using an ex-Sky box as a FTA system is fine but none of the Sky+ features (including DVR) will function unless there is an active Sky account.

Any tenant who is wondering about the digital switchover, my advice would be to go out and get your own Saorview box, and bring it with you when you move. I cant imagine too many landlords are going to provide one, so it will be €50 well spent!
