    Hi
We are a new start-up and need to decide which accounting package we are going to use. From an efficiency point of view it would be good to have something that was able to talk to high-rise, our crm. On their list of API plugin partners are the likes of http://lessaccounting.com/ among others.

On the other hand I have heard that http://bigredcloud.com/, an Irish solution are good.
We don't expect to have many people on the payroll, and most payments out will be to subcontractors
Which would you advise to use?
    thanks in advance

    Hello there

The best thing for you to do is try each package and see which suits your needs best, I think they all offer a free trail period. Also see what your accountant uses/recommends

    my choices would be
    1. Sage line 50: is a very good package and one of the most used ones in ireland among small business and accountants. prices start from €156 i think.
    2. www.xero.com. this is a very popular online accounting package and has loads of plug ins.

I find both the above very user friendly.

Big red books I didnt like it and know people who have spent alot of money on it never to use it. But don't dismiss it try the 30 day trial.

Sortmybooks.com is an Irish company that have a standalone and online version of their accounts packages, I haven't used either of their products but have spoken to people who find their products good and again their customer support is meant to be very good.

    Hope that helps

I recently wrote a blog post about how to choose accounts software that does not recommend any specific package but lists 10 things to consider when choosing an accounts package. I have put the link below in case it is of assistance.

ha ha thats hilarious.....I'm not recommending any accounts package, but my blog is on www.sage.ie!

Incidentally, small business here and we use sage one, its €12 a month and our accountant can have access from his end. we find it good.

Hi Johnny, I am connected to Sage and as I hope you can see from my previous posts I am transparent about that.

The blog post in question, while located on the Sage blog site is designed to be a generic guide to choosing accounting software to suit the needs of your business, it does not recommend any specific products. I often talk to people who are confused about what exactly they need in terms of functionality, cloud vs desktop and cost so I was hoping it would help to address that for them.

Delighted to hear that you are using Sage One, I hope that all goes well for you.
