Getting individual tracks when recording drums.

    well folks,

I've been experimenting with recording drum tracks at home for the last while and i was wondering how i would record so that each mic came up as its own individual track. When i was in the studio last we were able to adjust the sound of my drums and it came out great but by the looks of the desk in the studio it looked like the XLR's off my mics were just going straight into the desk.

So my big question is how can i do that too? I have a 8 track Behringer mixer and the recording software i use is Ableton Live 8.2.2

Do i need to buy anything else or is there a software i can download or anything like that? I'm really clueless to it at this stage.

Does your Behringer mix down to a single track before it hits your computer?

If you want to multitrack the drums, you need an interface with several tracks on it (not just a mix down to a single track)

you could do it even cheaper...

at a bare minimum you just need an audio interface with a few inputs, which will send the seperate drum mics to the software to record (you can do all the eqing, levels etc inside ableton)

for example 4 inputs on this http://www.thomann.de/gb/presonus_audiobox_44vsl.htm would prob do ya
