Can't even get an interview

When you've applied for loads of jobs and got nothing, is your CV always the problem? I am so disheartened by losing out to internal candidates and people with PhDs who are willing to work for peanuts that I feel even as an experienced candidate I haven't a hope of ever getting another job.

I tailor my CV to each application and put a solid effort in for each application but nothing. The only feedback I get is that I didn't make it to shortlist (even when I meet or exceed the essential and desired criteria) and it's from keeping an eye on the employer websites that I know who does eventually secure the positions. I've considered unpaid internships but I don't think experience is my problem (I'm mid career with good experience). But these days is that what's necessary to get a foot in the door?

My friends and family are worn out of hearing how hard it is to get a job, but it's this hard for most people right now isn't it? Or must it be my CV that's the problem if I can't even get an interview?

I dislike this, do they put on their cv that they're willing to work for peanuts? It might just be that the other applicants have better cvs so stop feeling sorry for yourself and making excuses why other people got the interview ahead of you and aim to constantly improve your cv.
Lots of people can't get interviews so keep your head up and keep trying.

U are right, but u ain't the only one. It does not matter, how damn good ur CV is more then likely u ain't going to get further. It ain't u, and it is disheartening but unfortunately that is the situation at the moment. That is why so many people are emigrating at the moment. There is FECK ALL in this country.

Do you know anyone in an employment agency or in HR who might look at your CV? How about an Enterprise Board, Chamber of Commerce or a friend/relation in HR?

I'm not suggesting that your CV is deficient in any way, but maybe they can help you get that extra 1%?

I know (believe me I really do!) what it's like, but people out there will appreciate the extra efforts you go to, so don't hesitate to try any means you can.

    Best of luck!

The peanuts comment was made in the context of a PhD candidate applying for jobs that do not require a PhD/have a specific salary range which is often quite low. I don't doubt that they're excellent candidates and more than capable of the jobs they get, but for those of us without PhDs we struggle to compete when an employer can get a PhD qualified candidate for the same price.

An agency looked at my CV when I registered with them recently and they said it was well-laid out and ticked all the boxes. They also said they'd a few things in the pipeline which I was perfect for and they haven't been in touch since so I'm not sure I trust what they say entirely ;)

There's plenty of us in the same boat I know, but sometimes it's just so frustrating.

I agree with the above poster iv sent C.Vs galore in the end it just reminded me this country is the pits it really is. when you look at other countries and how there working and pushing on it makes you think how junk this place we call home is. Your best bet is try another country yes its alot of hard work but you never know till you try.
