    How do these things work?

How do they connect to your router? Or your pc?

They're great. One plugs into a socket near your router with an ethernet cable going to the router and then you plug the other one anywhere in the house, and you have an internet connection. Don't use them on extention leads or double adaters as you will lose some bandwidth. Great way of getting internet to an attic where wireless won't reach. Hope this helps.:)

Just connect an ethernet cable from a LAN port on your router to one unit and plug into a nearby socket, then plug the other unit into a socket close to where the unit you want to connect to is and run an ethernet cable between them. Never had a problem with extension leads, it really depends on the quality of your housewiring.

Good deal but look for the cost/avaialbility of buying another single adapter as these things are so handy you might want to expand

I have been using two twin sets of these for a couple of years now. They were the "generic" ones @ 200mbs.

Never had any issue with them and way, way better than wireless.
I have a number of media players and a couple of old "smart" Samsung TVs and all have no issues streaming from a NAS box in the attic or using "youtube".

I personally wouldn't see much more of a benefit for having 500 over 200

Good deal but check this one out for similar money
and with the option of buying another single adapter for £15.99

Might be better if you want more than one point and it's not on lightening offer so no panic

I wouldn't buy an ssd just yet, the price has more than halved in the last few months, can only go lower IMO.

Iv been meaning to get one of these for sometime but I dont have any spare lan port free so is there away around this?

Is it possible to get one using wifi instead of the ethernet cable to modem router?

Could you get around it using a 4 port hub? I have two of the power line yokes upstairs and both and running into 4 port hubs. One with a TV, Media player, xbox connected. The other one a TV, a PC and.

I'd imagine if you went from your router via one port into a hub it should have little or no effect on the speed?

I probably could alright but I was hoping to buy a 8 port modem router but I just cant find any good ones

For the hub, is that powered by the modem router or do I need a spare socket for it?

I don't know, I guess it depends on what you use it for. If you copying/syncing large files across it the difference can be big enough. In my usage, I got a steady 90Mbps when copying a file with with a pair of 500Mbps adaptors, so I'd guess with 200Mbps you'd get about 40Mbps at most.

Not bad, but then again with 150Mbps broadband available these days, you might not want your local network connection to be the weakest link.
