Front Derailleur Hanger

I've got a problem with my front derailleur hanger. I noticed it because shifting hasn't been too smooth over the last week or two (I initially thought I had cable stretch) and the drive training has been noisier at times. Inspection this weekend showed that my derailleur was slight touching the middle ring when the chain was on the big ring - depending on how taught the cable was. I also saw that at least one of the 'rivets' (??) holding the hanger onto the frame is broken / missing. See attached picture.

I have a feeling that this is a repair job I won't be attempting myself, but was wondering what the opinion was. I've seen some people say that they've re-rivetted it themselves and it worked. That's beyond my tool/skillset but is this likely to work?

Also, I'll probably be looking to drop it in somewhere on Thurs/Fri, hoping to get it back on Sat. The closest shops to me are Stagg, Cycle Superstore and Wheelworx. Any recommendations on who you would go for? I'm leaning towards CSS, but am not sure.

Try him behind the striker in 4-1-3-2 formation.

If it will fix it, I'll give it a go. I don't see it fixing it though.

oops, my bad, hadnt copped that rivet missing :o probably not going to help if its carbon, i'd take it to a bike shop, if its aluminium (and well out of warranty) i'd be tempted to rivet it myself, otherwise you would be looking at replacing it with a clamp on deralliuer (again not if its carbon)

It is carbon. I've never had much to do with front derailleurs - is a clamp on no-go for carbon? If so, would somewhere have to find a way to reattach the existing one or one of the same type?

That's mad, never seen the likes of that. It would have taken some force to shear a rivet like that. But at the same time, it's better that the rivet sheared rather than have the carbon fail by giving way. Will be interesting to hear how you get on with it.

Replacing a front mech will get you a green belt in bike ninja - go for it!

I phoned Cycle Superstore and explained it. He said that it happens from time to time and they should be able to clean it up a bit, re-rivet and glue it, kinda like what was done in the factory. I'm dropping it up on Thurs/Fri so I'll hopefully have it back on Saturday. Will update then.

I'd replace the mech OK, but I'm not too keen on violating the CF with guns and stuff! Probably a green belt ultra!
