    Hi Guys,

I'm looking to get either a Tablet, Notebook or a Kindle.

I need to replace my laptop & I'm looking for something different.

    My requirements are as follows:

-Light, durable, Good battery life & fast
-Need to do a small bit of Word or Excel
-Use the internet all the time
    -Ebook reading the whole time
-Handy to have on the lap
-Watch movies the whole time on it

If anyone could recommend something that would be great! Don't want a laptop though. I want some of the things above.

The Kindle I had looked into was the Kindle Fire HD.

    Any advice would be appreciated!
    Michelle

If you need to do anything on documents, editing, viewing etc, I wouldn't think the tablet would be the way to go at all. It's just not easy to use, and you'll never have true functionality.

I would say you need two devices. A laptop/netbook/ultrabook and a true eReader. By that I mean an eReader with the eInk/black and white screen. I wouldn't want to read a book on a conventional screen being honest, but the kindle eInk ereader is simply fantastic.

OK, reading ebooks on a tablet all the time is straining the eyes, get an e-ink reader instead, seriously (Want a bit of light? A Kobo Glo or Kindle PW is the answer).

Word and Excel aren't exactly fun on a tablet either. Plus, you'll need a tablet with Windows 7 or 8 for that and they are very expensive (very little about Windows RT and MS Office is known yet). The software doesn't work on a Kindle Fire.

Asus Transformer is both a tablet and a notebook.
It has Polaris office which can handle excel and word.
    10.1 inches.

I definitely wouldn't consider a tablet if you want to do any amount of typing on it!

if you're writing long documents/spreadsheets a tablet is very difficult to work with
Microsoft offers free versions of Word and Excel on www.live.com they don't have all the features of Word and Excel, but there's enough for basic editing

I wouldn't be doing a lot of typing on them. But I do see your points.

I was looking at the Netbooks, has anyone had these? Are they any good?

I do like the look and feel of them, could you use them like an e-reader as well?

    Thanks,
    Michelle

    What's your price budget? I wouldn't recommend a netbook or a tablet.
Netbooks have crap processors in them and after a while slow down alot, they can't handle much.
Tablets have very limited functionality, I understand what you need it for but simple things like printing you will have trouble doing.

I would recommend an ultrabook or a laptop with a small screen. The ultrabooks are class but cost a good bit, over a grand.

I recently purchased a dell laptop with a 13.5 inch screen for an employee, would be perfect for what you want it for, best of everything and didnt cost too much.

Sure, as long as you don't expect it to be a laptop replacement.

You can, plenty software to read ebooks on a computer. But an e-reader is more suitable for long hours of reading (and the battery lasts forever and a day).

A netbook is a useful compromise, a jack of many trades but a master of none. Handy to have, but they can't replace a laptop or an e-reader entirely.
