Just popping this on here in case anyone is interested

    http://www.dlrevents.ie/5k12.html

This is a FUN RUN, not chip timed but entry is free for children and only €5 for adults. Goodie bag, medal and T-shirt at the Finish Line. It takes place in Kilbogget Park Ballybrack, County Dublin. It's very suitable for children, families, or anyone who has just started running. You must register in advance.

Be prepared for buggies, dogs, cats*, horses* and one or two club vests on the Start Line:)
We attended last year as a family and had a great day out.

*No cats or horses last year but I'm sure they're welcome

Marthastew - I'll see you there!
I booked this on Friday - great value for a fiver!
What's the park like...is it flat or hilly?
I'd like to give sub 20 a bash if it's flat.

It's not a flat park, but it's hills are not that bad. Depending on the route they take, it should be good enough for a bash at a PB. (but I did say it's not flat!)

I registered for this a while ago. Can´t find any confirmation email I may have received. What do I need to bring on race day? Is there a reg number or is my name ok?

    Thanks.

I know I printed a coupon for the race itself when registering. I think you should have got something alright...?

I managed to squeeze in an easy spin around last year's route yesterday while the boys were at rugby.....

I presume it's the same route this year. It doesn't look remotely hilly from the elevation chart but there are definitely a few small up and down hills.

Parking is very limited at the park itslef so either get there early or park on roads in the nearby estates.

Belcarra, I would imagine you won't have much company in the sub 20 run but at least you won't have to worry about people getting in your way:)

    Thanks for that O!
Doesn't look too bad and if the hills are a little worse than they seem on GC they will still probably be easy compared to Athlone yesterday!
Should be good regardless, can't go wrong for a fiver.:D

I might just do that. I don't usually get my Saturday itinerary from central planning office until late Friday evening though ;). Anyone know if you can register on the day?

I actually ended up in the middle of this run last year while out on a LSR through the parks of DLR!

There's no mention of it on the site, which is strange because these types of fun runs are usually all about getting people on the day. Sure its only a fiver! "participants will receive a t-shirt, medal and goodie bag as well as refreshments to keep energy levels up" Sure I might signup anyway and not run it!

You can register on the day but you need to get there early. Already 500+ registered online. Looks like it will be a fun day out.

Looks like I'm committed to the intermediate CC on Sunday, so unlikely I'll do this. Will definitely keep it in mind for next year. Have a good one!

Ran this today, great value for a fiver, surprised with the quality of the T shirts, they were ok technical tops, wasn't expecting that.

Great to see a community event, everyone and anyone took part from the young and not so young, able and no so able bodied. No records were going to get broken with crowded course, no chip timing and 300 extra metres on the 5k but who cares it was great fun anyway. :)

    Any results for this?

...until 500m into the second lap!! ;-)
Good event for the community but chances of the sub 20 were out the door when it was announced beforehand that the course was 5.3km instead. Can't really complain given it was advertised as a fun run but it really would have been easy to move the start line a bit further forward by say oooh... 300m :-p

Really enjoyed this. Thanks to all the organisers and volunteers.

To get your 5k time put your time for 5300 into seconds, then divide by 5300 and multiply by 5000.
Or you can talk about the kids and the buggies, whatever suits. ;)

Or simply take the cumulative time at the 5 km split! That still doesn't take into account the few seconds lost weaving around the backmarkers but hey that's fine - gotta be expecting that when it only costs a fiver!

I agree, it was still a good day out and better than sitting at home watching TV (and definitely better than being in the Aviva stadium the night before!!)

Great day for a run. Very well organized and brilliant value. First race for my OH and 2 year old who loved every second as she got pushed around 'Very fast'!! Not a race for pb's and stuff as has already been mentioned but in term of getting people- young, old, able bodied and disabled out and active it's a 10/10.
A new PW for me but one I'll remember for a long time for the memory of Jnr face as I took her out of buggy to 'sprint' the last 100 meters. Nice to meet some familiar faces afterwards too.

A great start to Social Inclusion week by DLR, and a super example of how a Fun Run can include all types of runners, walkers, joggers, scooters....
The bright sunny Autumn day made it all the more enjoyable and consequently there was a fantastic turnout. The anouncement at the start letting people know that the course was long (there must be some logistical reason for this as it was the same last year) and reminding people to allow runners to pass on the second loop made the race run relatively smoothly.

My 9 year old's rugby team used it as a fundraiser for Barretstown and they collected over €1,800, so all in all a great day out.

Great to catch up with some boardsies before and after also.
