3 problems with laptop.

    Hi all

I bought a laptop of christmas 2010 and have been using it ever since, upon purchase i took out a "techplan" for three years so i have warranty for three years.

There are now three problems with my laptop, the first being there is a crack in the case of the laptop near the left hinge, it runs through the holes in the case for the fan and when i lift my laptop lid its getting worse and worse. The second problem is every now and again i will hear the laptop hard drive clicking and making weird sounds. And the third is the laptop wont turn on without it being plugged into a power source.

I am taking my laptop in to PC world where i bought it and see what they can do.

Is it most likely they will repair the options or offer me a replacement laptop of similar value?

The laptop is a HP G56.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Regards,

    Jordan.

A cracked case is probably not covered by the cover plan you need to read the small print carefully(just in case it is).No power on without being plugged in knackered battery, normal wear and tear perhaps.Clicking noise from the hard drive you should back up all your data straight away, you should get a new one fitted for free.

the cracked case is covered it says anything wrong user or technical faults, cosmetic or internal. I have just ordered a new battery and its still not turning on without being plugged in.

I've seen this a few times and it can be caused by carrying the lap-top by the screen part with the key-board. hard-drive, CPU housing part hanging free and unsupported. It's often (not accusing OP) caused by eejits trying to look cool by emulating stuff they see done on the telly / films. Unless the case is ruggedised, the hinges are not designed to take that weight.

yes i have received the battery

No i am not an idiot, i dont carry my laptop by its lid or half lid, half case.

Most of the time it is on a desk and doesn't get moved, when being transported, the lid gets closed and held with both hands on the bottom of the case.

if being transported out the house its gets put in a laptop case and secured.

i have tired to look after this laptop the best i can, there isn't a scratch on it.

Sounds like the hinge seized, not common but can happen. With the three year warranty i'd be looking to get that fixed too.
Sounds as though the hard drive needs replacing too, as said above, back up your files right away.
Not sure about the battery, no harm in pointing it out and asking for a replacement there too. If the new one is not charging either then there may be a problem with the DC pin.. again ask for a diagnosis and get them to fix the problem

    hi thanks for reply.

there is nothing wrong with either battery, they both charge up and run required time fine.

the problem is when the laptop is off you unplug it from its charger and then try and turn it on, it wont turn on. When you then plug it back in then nothing happens, no lights, nothing.

you have to take out the battery, plug charger in and then battery then it will fire up.
