a friend of a friend does it up round Slane. Apparently grazing is out of the question. milking goats arent as hardy as their wild cousins

There is very little expansion at the moment and Glensisk aren't taking on new suppliers. There's always the possibility of a cheese maker looking for milk though. Check out

my neighbour milks 300 over the year , he has to deliver the milk to 3 different chese makers himself , he often goes at 3 in the morning to deliver , some weeks its hard to get buyers for the milk , also hard to get nice type of haylage for them to eat

It's all about having a customer ... A lot of processors want all year round supply..the closer to your customer the better as you'll prob be delivering yourself...
As was said above most goat herds are indoor not grazers... Goats are browsers not grazers anyway but the the more high yielding the more minding they're going to need...

I contacted someone in glenisk a few years back and they don't plan on any more suppliers in the republic, they source from the north rather than taking in more suppliers.

A neighbour got into it a few years ago. He put up a parlour, bought the goats spent a good few pound. When he started milking he couldn't give the milk away. He ended up getting rid of the lot of them. You'd want to do your research and have a guarenteed market for the milk before getting into it IMO

Where were you thinking of getting ur goats from ? Good ones can be hard to source ...
Talk to Ger in Ardsallagh in cork...they buy a lot of milk and are expanding...
