Whats the best Freeview box available to connect to the Free to Air satellite TV for my Saorview TV?

It has to have the Red Button and HD.

ah there's the problem, do you mean freeview uk and not SAORVIEW ireland as that is FREEVIEW in english!!

best for uk is the humax foxsat ie this one

A Freeview box will no receive free to air satellite TV. It receives free to air TV from an aerial.

For satellite TV you need a Freesat box such as one of these.

NB This site is for UK online sales. Not sure if they will sell to Ireland.

Your credit card has to be registered in UK.

You need two cables from the dish to the box for any recording plus (+) box.

Try tvtrade.ie. I have bought remote's and HDMI Cables from them. They explain the various boxes available and have videos to provide extra help.

If you buy a UK freeview box from Northern Ireland or the UK mainland can you be gauranteed it will work in the Republic?

You are getting me confused. FREEVIEW is not FREESAT. FREEVIEW is the UK digital terrestial television (DTT)system and it has 2 formats. Only the T2 format will pick up the Irish DTT but it will pick up both of the uk dtt systems as T2 is backwards compatible. FREESAT is a proprietary UK FREE SATELLITE system and it has its own EPG sytem. So if you buy a FREESAT box it will be able to receive the freesat epg via satellite.

    are you clear now.

so what you need is a FREESAT HD box to connect to a dish to get the satellite channels.

Absolutely not. A UK Freeview box will only get sound in the republic as Freeview is MPEG 2 only.

A Freeview HD box may work with some limitations with the channel numbering and clock settings.

I bought one of these in the north

Excellent box and works a treat with Saorview. Tomorrow I should also have the first half of the freeview channels on it also :D

You won't get half - only the BBC channels.

Figure of speech. Meant the first half of the freeview switchover.

Ive done a retune tonight and I have the Saorview and BBC channels on the same guide. The only downside is that you cannot display programme info in the guide for both at the same time. For example if you are watching a freeview programme and open the guide then the saorview programme guide will be blank. It quickly populates when you select a saorview channel but then the freeview ones go blank. No deal breaker for me.

You can add whatever channels to a favourites list. I have (at the moment) BBC1 BBC2, RTE 1, RTE2 etc, organised as I like in a list. Press the select button and a channel list with these in the correct order appears (not the 8 day guide though).

I have tested recording saorview and freeview simultaneously and it works fine.

This is an excellent box. I had orginally bought the samsung smart box but left it back as I found it to be be very buggy. This does what it says on the tin.

(also joined Unblock Us and added their DNS number to the box and can now access BBC iplayer through it :D)

I currently have two Sky HD Boxes, one Sky+ HD box in the living room and a Sky HD Multiroom box in the main bedroom. I am looking into getting rid of the Multiroom box to save €15 a month, so I was wondering what my options were? If I were to just cancel my multiroom subscription, does my Sky Multiroom box now just function as a Freesat box with a UK PG, or what would be the difference if say i purchased one of the Humax Freesat boxes? Are there any more channels available on the Humax Freesat box, or would my choice of channels be the same on both boxes?

if you cancel the multiroom sub, the box will have just the FTA channels on the irish epg. In addition you will not have any of the irish channels.

The Humax HDR box would be a bit of an overkill as a multiroom box as they are expensive and you can do all your recording on the main sky box. No there are no extra channels, but the epg is nice and tidy.

another option would be a combo box for uk and irish fta channels but you will need an aerial connection as well.
