Looking for a decent record player

Hi all Im not sure if this is the correct place to post but Im looking to buy a record player for my dad for his birthday, I don't really know anything about them but was thinking it would be cool to get him one that allows him to convert the records into digital form.Is this possible? Thanks for any advice :)
