barbed or plain

Anyone using plain bull wire instead of barbed?

I have always heard it said plain wire strained well is as good as barbed but have seen little evidence of it's use on farms.

Seems in NZ it's effective. Much kinder to work with too.

That Youtube is for sheep wiring. Why put up 5 or 6 strands when 1 or 2 electrified ones, will do a far better job?

Mains fencing is hard to beat in the right place but most farms have fields where it is awkward or impossible to implement.

Fencing for reps I had to put up six strands barbed for cattle but I am almost certain six plain would have been as effective with posts spaced a bit closer.
