I've been offered two jobs one is a retail assistant manager in a big chain for which I have experience ,there is the opportunity to progress to store manager within two years. The other job is accounts assistant for which I don't have experience but they agreed to train me ,there is the opportunity to become an accountant after three years experience and about ten exam papers for which they will fund but the studying is optional I don't have to take those exams so I could stay an accounts assistant ......can anyone help me with the pros and cons? Have to decide by this week coming.

I was a retail manager for many years - I'm not anymore... take what you will from that.

I have done both jobs and by far the better option is accounts, its very expensive to train as an accountant so if the company will pay for this happy days, iati is a goods accounting technician course to have and really its best to do this one first before the big acca ones especially if you have no prior experience

Retail us something that you can always fall back into but accounts give you a much better career options, and you don't have to deal with narky customers face to face, wages also better,no weekend work or bank holidays and you get the Christmas period off to...and you at a nice comfy desk as opposed to on your feet all day

Accounts is very structured and the processes ate the same every mth and accuracy is vital, whereas retail anything can come at in the form of a customer so its really which you prefer

Sorry for spellings typeing from phone

If anything in particular you want to know let me know and i'll try help

Retail management is a pure and utter nightmare of a job, if I were in your shoes I'd grab the accounts gig with both hands
