Hi, Posted a week back about my headlight alignment failure for the nct. Just one side failed. Anyway I brought it to a fast fit place today and they said they cant get it to line it up with their test machine. He said I might need a new headlamp. He said the adjustment bit must be broke.
When I got home I had another look and they do adjust up and down, I can clearly see it against the wall moving up and down,
Ive no way to test this. Im wondering if maybe the lightbulb is just a little off.
Think ill bring it to a mechanic for their opinion.
Any ideas, id like to get it done before the times up so not to do whole test again.

Any chance the lightbulb is fitted incorrectly? There is a lip and a groove that go together but I've often seen a bulb fitted without these lined up or alternatively, the spring retainer catching the wiring such that the bulb is pulled sideways.

Thats where I'd be looking first anyway.

wait til its dark and park in front of a wall and check that the pattern is the same as the one that passed and roughly at the same level. better to have it a little lower than a little higher. obviously , do the above checks on bulb fitment first.

Thanks lads, I looked at the lights against a wall and the one that failed is much higher. It seems to be ok on the sides. The lightbulb seems to be fitted ok so not sure if this is at fault. They both adjusts up and down but stay at different heights. Would you think a new whole section from the scrapyard would fix this. Cant think what else could fix it.

When you say "they both adjust up and down .........", how are you trying to adjust them? Are you using the headlight leveller inside the car?

Or are you adjusting them manually on each individual headlamp as you should be?

you'll have to adjust it manually with the inside dial set to '0'

Ye I was just moving them from inside the car, I didnt know you could adjust each one manually. I dont see why fast fit couldnt do it. Thanks ill give it a go.

The manual adjuster on the headlight may be broken or the bulb is fitted badly and may not line up on the machine. The level control adjuster in the cabin should be set to 0, other than that it has no bearing on how the lights are focused
