    Hi,

Quick question. Is it okay to disconnect multi-room boxes from the phone line after a year or do they still try to dial in, and charge if it is not connected to the line?

    Thanks in advance.

You Multiroom contract (T&C available on Sky's website, if you're really interested!) state that all boxes that form part of the Multiroom sub (your main box, and any additional boxes) must be connected to the same phone line for the duration of the subscription, and not just the first year.

What happens if you don't? Well, you're, strictly speaking, liable for the full sub cost for each additional box (not just the Multiroom subsidised rate), but I haven't heard of Sky charging anyone without sending a warning letter first.

You'll hear varying, and conflicting, evidence as to whether Sky follow up on this. In my case I did a manual callback (Google it) every month from each box, and never had a warning. Some say they got a warning letter within a month of disconnecting, and some say they've never had a letter in years.

Is it OK to disconnect? You'll be breaking the terms of your contract, but Sky are likely to warn you before taking any action.

Still try to dial in unfortunately, you could say you've switched provider like Digiweb or Wimax which are not compatible with Sky, they could make an exemption from CLI charges

Our main and multi box has been disconnected from the phoneline for about 10 months now with no problems, that's not to say its the same for everyone but its my experience.

Like the poster above said, I'd imagine youd get a warning first

I don't think they are too regular with the dial-in. When I got my own place I brought my main box with me and left the parents with the multi-room box.
They had Sky with all sports and movie channels for €15 a month for about 5 years until I got a call about it.
