    Hi all,
    A quick question.
My friend left his Irish registered car parked just outside the airport in Carcassonne for 2 months. He has just been informed that it has been impounded. He is flying over on Monday to get it back. What fine is he likely to pay?

He left a car at the airport and he's back in Ireland and now has to fly to France to get it back.

Why did he leave without the car in the first place.

    Two months parking charges.
    Release fee from car pound.
    Cost of flight over there.
Cost of fuel to drive it home.
    Cost of ferry.
    Sundry costs (Food, Accomodation etc).

Sod that - I'd let the French keep the damn thing.

He had to come home for a medical emergency. The car is left in France all year round ( without being registered in France- I've warned him about this). He insures it only for the time he stays in France. It's only worth about 1.5k. I agree with Lapin, if it was me I'ld write it off. He's getting a cheap flight over, will move the car somewhere else and fly back home. I've warned him that depending on the mood of the Gendarmerie they could let him have it as regards a fine. Certainly he will be paying some fine to get it back if they let him have it back plus flights plus aircoach.

Thats explains it as it seem to be a very strange suituation reading the first post. Thanks.

It's illegal to park your car in public in France without valid insurance too. If he does lose it, tell him that I have "spare" Irish car in France ;)

    Thanks guys,
He got the car back for the sum of €161 (€113 removal fee and €6 x 8 days in the car pound). I think he got away really lightly. He has now moved it to a free public carpark close to the airport. I'm pretty sure it will be removed again soon but I think he wants the excuse to frequently fly to Carcassonne.
