mini cooper s- a solution to no room for a spare?

    Hi all,

    I'm seriously considering the cooper s. I would plan to change the run flat tyres for normal ones ( the €€ noise and comfort would prevail) but the thought of having no spare strikes fear into me. Having the boot available at full capacity is neccessary.

    I've seen a possible solution on the net a tyre carrier system on the boot door- a yay or nay? And would it devalue the car?

    Personally I think that looks terrible, plus in the longer run if you're looking for or require usable boot space, I'm not sure a Mini is the best thing to be going for anyway...

    I'd sooner just go for the tyre rescue kit that's a lot smaller and will at least get you to a tyre place if you do get a puncture if you do have your heart set on a Mini. The whole point of the CooperS is to be the sportier brother of the One. I'm not sure making it look like a weird jeep hybrid at the back would be in good taste. :P (my opinion of course)

    That looks rank.

    Realistically, how often do people get a flat? I've been driving 17 years and have got 2 flats in that time and those were slow punctures. Keep good tyres on the car and carry a can of tyre weld and a small plug in compressor and you should be ok.

    If you decided against the cooper s, this is available for the non s models. It won't fit the cooper s due to the centre exit exhaust.

    Terrible looking!

    Herself has one of the first model new minis, with the space saver wheel underneath as per neilw's post.

    TBH, I wouldn't like to see her trying to get the space saver out and the wheels swapped at night in the rain. She has a bag of "emergency stuff" in the boot including a can of tyreweld and compressor. Has never needed to use the tyreweld.
