Anybody know if Ryanair has pulled out of San Javier airport, Murcia, Spain. Was trying to book flights to/from Murcia in November/Christmas period from Dublin, but they don't seem to have any activity there. Are they pulling out of that part of Spain?

They pull out of there every winter.

Not quite true Cesna_P, we travelled to Murcia last Christmas and back in mid Jan. this seems to be the first year they have withdrawn from Murcia for the Winter.

Indeed its the first winter they have stopped flights to Murcia. There could be a few flights at Christmas loaded but unlightly. Alicante is you only option unless you want to travel Dublin-Stansted-Murcia.

They had the flights loaded for the winter timetable for a week or two in August before they decided to pull them. They will be back next summer but weather its at the new or current airport will be another story.....

Not thread relevant, but how come you always reply "most LIGHTLY" on all your forum posts! It should be most LIKELY. Probably a predictive text thing...

having flown this route a number of times this year both on and off peak, all flights in both directions were full/almost full.

it seems to be a busy route for Ryanair, especially since they pulled out of Dublin-Almeria a couple of years ago.

My only gripe is that there is no announcement to inform people that they have pulled out for the winter or longer. Or have I just missed one?

We have flown to Murcia over Winter period for a good few years. As indicated by Jamie2 above I did think that they had loaded/scheduled flights to/from Murcia earlier on, but I had forgotten about it. Pity they didn't tell us about their plans, having already listed that destination, and removed it without a word later. In fairness to Aer Lingus, they are as competitive as Ryanair, I.E. Dublin/Alicante. In fact, we've booked Aer Lingus now. Murcia did suit our destination. As indicated above, their flights were mostly 2/3's to 3/4 full at all times.

Have booked a Ryanair flight to Murcia for next year.

Usually their website says 'Murcia San javier' but this time it just says Murcia.

My thinking is that they're not 100% yet as to which Murcia airport they will be flying to so aren't being specific.

    Just wondering if anyone knows?

Ryanair haven't pulled out of Murcia per se, it's more to do with the local government who want to move commercial airline operations to another airport in Murcia. It was due to happen earlier this summer but things went quiet and th rumour mill was saying there was an issue with the runway length!

As far as I am aware the airport switch will happen at some stage next year and Ryanair will fly to the alternate airport. From what I gather the Ryanair/Murcia route is very popular and always busy. Granted they do reduce flight frequency in the winter months.

The future of both airports is still unknown and a recent article states the new airport requires 107,000 euro to be completed however it also states that both airports will operate together before a gradual move to the new one.

FR will probably remain in the current airport until October 2013 at the earliest, I can't see them asking airlines to move mid way through the summer season.

i suppose i was really wondering more which Murcia airport they will be landing in in June when I arrive, as I've booked the flights already.

they now call it simply 'Murcia' airport and not 'Murcia San Javier' as they used to on their website, leading me to believe that they themselves dont know what airport it will be and are covering themselves.

speaking to some of my Spanish friends, they feel that the new Murcia Corvera airport may possible open next April.

I suppose I'm really trying to find out to know what airport to book a car at!
Rang their CC earlier but didn't get through. I'll try again later
