The 620S appears to be a mainland Europe model (the 620T being the UK/Ireland Saorview approved model) but should be OK for Saorview. The TV also appears to have a satellite tuner.

Thats what the S is for. It does, so you will get all the fta stuff through it by just connecting one of the satellite cables to the back of the Tv directly.

Sounds interesting. Is it DVB-S or DVB-S2?

Will you still get all the freesat channels?

    From the manual - DVB-T, DVB-C, DVB-S/S2.

No mention of Freesat. manutd83 should be able to give you an update next week.

It's Freesat and has DVB-S2, it's a French model but so was my LG....it will work fine for UK/IRL.....just set the country to Ireland and you'll be grand. Install the latest firmware etc. which is very recent: http://www.lg.com/fr/support-produit/lg-42LM620S#

Actually....further to the "s" part...it's a European model and the only difference i can see is the plug....it's a Euro plug...the two pin round type, but Pixmania normally sender an adapter in the box to make it UK/IRL compatiable.

If not, email Pix and they'll sendone out or you can buy connectors/converters locally. Sometimes there are slight styling difference, like sometimes the base stand is a different type, the nanual might be French or difference on the outer box/packaging.

But the tv specs themselves remain the same, the tv menus are multi language and multi country. I bought from Pix because they were a hell of alot cheaper then local retailers. But....if it breaks down, you're fecked!....shipping that tv back to Pix?......lol!

Pixmania are breaking the law if they advertise it for UK & Ireland and don't fit a UK/Ireland plug. They can weasel out of it if it was say a Website for the French Market.

They have an adapter...it's not a big deal!

Its DVB-S2 for HD services as well. You will get all the channels. The Freesat part is the Freesat Software that isnt loaded for 7 day epg/autotuning etc. Pan European model rather than UK specific.

The manual says DVB-S/S2...so Freesat HD, it also DVB-T2 = Freeview HD, and it's also Saorview as it has MPEG4 + MHEG5 :)

    No!
Freesat HD uses DVB-S2, but DVB-S2 doesn't mean Freesat. (many additional features)
Freeview HD uses DVB-T2, but DVB-T2 doesn't mean Freeview. (many additional features)
Saorview uses MPEG4 + MHEG5. But unless it's certified it's unlikely to be 100% compatible.

You are confusing basic features with "Platforms". Unless something is certified Freesat HD, it's extremely unlikely to do more than the channels and part of interactive (Red button needs MORE than MHEG5 on Freesat).

It may be very capable for Saorview and Freesat channels but unless this TV is for UK & Ireland market and certified you can not claim Freesat HD, Freeview HD, and Saorview platform compatibility without misleading people.

    EU-to-UK-Plug-Adapter-SCP3A-.jpg

That's not a Europlug (2 pin only), that is a Shuko plug, fatter pins and an earth contact.

Any adaptor must have screw cover and be certified.

Safety is a huge deal. the Irish/UK 13A sockets can deliver over 20A (typically 20A MCB). The system relies on a suitable value of fuse in the plug (or permanently screwed on Europlug adaptor).

Plugs for Irish/UK sockets (or adaptors) must be certified and meet a set of specs.

The DVB-S/S2 model doesn't have a DVB-T2 tuner according to the manual.

Could you post back when you test the TV. If you set country=UK, do you get offered Freesat?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

i.e. It tunes automatically, full 7 day EPG and not just red button text but alternate video via red button all works, also the Freesat EPG numbers (perhaps with optional re-ordering). Being able to tune Freesat channels and watch them (even HD) isn't Freesat.

If it IS Freesat, you cannot reorder or renumber the channel numbers. It is not allowed.

I would also like to know how the numbering of the Saorview channels work? Are they in the 800s and acn you move them.

Most Freesat gear has a non-Freesat mode and some gear has "Favorites". But yes, you are 100% correct, the real Freesat EPG can't be changed anymore than Sky's can.

So i recieved this tv today,im very happy with it,i havnt had an awful lot of time to mess around with it but i have my sky hooked up and i have the soarview working perfectly,il check the freesat signal tmw

Hi, I have this tv a few weeks and its a grand TV. It is not freesat but you pick up the HD channels with the DVB-S2 tuner. I have updated the firmware on it from the site URL
Just create a directory on your key called LG_DTV and drop the software file into it(unzip it to get the file). Plug the key into your tv and it will pick the update up.

I havent been able to get RTE player working on it as the flash version on the tv is 10.x and the rte player needs 11.x. I have a wireless mouse and keyboard plugged into it for browsing the net. The remote is painful to use for browsing

Its a nice TV and for me the built in sat tuner was a big plus so I am happy with it

Have you gone to the menu and selected the satellite you require and done a scan?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 326 ✭✭manutd83

Yeah that was the first thing i did, maybe i have to update it as audioslaven did

When I installed the tv, it downloaded off the net two updates. After the updates finished I added the satellites and then did a full scan. It picked up the channels.

I then downloaded the update from the link above and installed it. I had no issues connecting it or getting saorview and the sat channels

I had no issues getting the saorview channels either but its not going great with the sat channels,iv done the software updates and scanned for the channels and still nothing

Have you added the sat into the menu on "settings -> setup -> satellite setting. The main sat is astra 2abd 28.2E and then do a auto tuning. Also have you set your country in "option"

I cant understand why you are not picking up the channels. Were you picking up the channels from a previous sat box?

Watching satellite on a Sky box has not solved your issue.

How do you know the satellite tuner in the TV is working ? It shouldnt require a box! Infact that defeats the whole idea of having an integrated tuner.

sorry you didnt get what i meant,i have a sky box set up to it but i have it working now without a skybox,my tv has a sat tuner and its connected straight to the dish

Ah good stuff. Install the patch update from the previous link. It will update the flash payer version to 10.x on the tv

Hey guys, is this the tv 42lm620s that pixmania are selling the sames model as the one in these reviews??

Looking at the connects on the backs, it only shows one input for the aerial but there is none for the dish? Also, is it broadcasting hd on the aerial signal??

i was thinking of getting this from pixmania!
    http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/11926830/art/lg/42lm620s-3d-led-televisio.html#consumer-advices

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ZV5cXs6RpYk#t=73s

the video shows two inputs for the aerial and satelite however on pixmania's pictures of it, there is only one!

Thinking about buying this tv on pixmania.ie
I was going to purchase it on amazon.es at 560 Euro price (they ship to ireland). The problem is the shipping costs.

manutd83, did you have to do something especial first time connected? Some people say you can't choose Ireland in the menu in the model bought from pixmania.

I couldnt choose ireland in the menu as this is a mainland europe model,it gives you the choice of about 10 countries and there is also a choice of "other country",so thats the 1 i picked,i use a rabbit ears antenna and it picks the saorview channels fine when tuned in
