Hello. Could someone offer some advice on this.

I am a full time student receiving BTEA and I have been offered a spot on Merrion square for the Sunday exhibitions. To accept the place I have to sign for a casual trading licence for the days i exhibit and give my PPS number.

My question is would my BTEA be cut for that one day ( Sunday ).

Although its a trading licence I will be mostly exhibiting paintings. There will not be any income from it.

    Thanks for any help offered.
    :)

You can work while on btea and it is not assessed as means. I dont know about self-employment which would be your case. Why not give SW a buzz or maybe someone else on here could answer the self employment aspect of this.

    cheers for the reply.

This will be classed as self employed i think, but am just wondering how that would effect me BTEA. Might not be worth doing the one day on the merrion square if it effects me social welfare payments.

On BTEA you are allowed work up to 20 hours a week without your benefit being touched. I'm not sure how it works for casual self employment but I'm sure you'll be grand.

Anecdotally I believe if you work in excess of nthe 20 hours and don't declare it the department are not likely to know or find out. This is due to the revenue and Social Welfare systems being badly integrated.

Just for reference Revenue and SW do actually talk. SW are notified by revenue of anyone claiming and working (e.g. regd by and employer). And sw and revenue do combined hits on markets/building sites etc.

so with revenue. thats if you are actually selling something on a traders licence. as i said in my original post I will be mostly exhibiting so still not sure if this will effect my BTEA.

Prob best to ring them on monday to check it with them.

just thought someone with previous experience might know.
    thanks

You should be ok and your legit giving the pps etc, as said as long as you don't exceed the 20 hours should be fine.

There should be no problem at all. Congrats on getting the pitch btw, and best of luck with it.
