Sold a car, motor tax

I sold a car privately at the start of September, I returned the log book with the new owners details to the DoE the next day. Yesterday a reminder for the motor tax renewal arrived in the house for this car. Does this mean that the transfer of ownership did not go through okay?

No, motor tax renewals come out a bit early and would not of had the new owners details. Throw it in the bin, or ring the guy that bought the car and ask him does he want it so he can renew online using the pin.
