Bother getting engine diagnostics check for used car?

So I've seen a BMW 118 2.0L that I like and have agreed on a price, just want to get it checked out before handing over €€€€. I searched a few threads on recommended mechanics in the area the car is located in and found Discount Tyres and Servicing in Blanchardstown, and phoned them there about arranging a used car inspection at their premises.

It is pretty much a pre-NCT test, simply a visual inspection, oil, tyres, etc... for €45. I know very little about car maintenance (past ensuring any car I own gets serviced regularly), but asked about getting an engine diagnostics check done, which would cost an additional €50. Am I correct in thinking this is a precautionary check worth taking?

I have no reason to suspect the car is dodgy but I also am aware that caveat emptor should be on the forefront of my mind! Should I go even further and ask for other checks, whatever they may be?

If you want to get a proper diagnostic then I recommend bringing it to a BMW indy who has the correct software and is familiar with the make.

yeah, a good idea to run a diagnostic check on it to check for logged error codes etc.
Ask for milage to be verified too.
