Stone Cold vs Punk - Who would win and why?

There's been a lot of talk of punk facing austin lately, maybe its just because of wwe 13 coming out and they are using it to promote that (very cleverly, i might add).
But I got thinking. Who would PW Boards like to see walk out a winner.

Would Punk need the win? Should Austin get one last chance to open a can of whoop ass, stand over punk and flip him the bird?

Or Should Punk be catapulted into heights that Cena hasnt gotten to; Beating a bonafide attitude era legend?

I'd rather if Austin didn't wrestle again he is well north of 40, a physical wreck and a win or loss over Punk wouldn't do a lot for him either way. There is tentative talk of doing Punk vs Foley at TLC apparently. I wish that was me joking.

In a flat out shoot fight hands down Punk would kick Austins Ass (And Blow Out His Knees)

In A Match it's hard to know! You'd expect Austin to be the good veteran and do the job and put Punk over, but as we saw at Wrestlemania this year some Veterans just won't lie down!

Personally I'm conflicted, I'd love to see SCSA hit the stunner, flip the bird, down a beer and to the Honorable thing and shake hands with Punk (and give'em a Pepsi)
However as such a CM Punk mark it'd be awesome to see the Stone Cold of the PG era beat the actual SCSA! Punk is WAY over with the Die Hard fans (And the Wrestling purists/Pundits) a win over Steve will send him to the stars!
Punk has said his last goal is to "Main Event a Wrestlemania" and that after he does that he'll "have nothing to do". If he wins and then leaves, a rub like beating Stone Cold would be wasted!

I think Steve Austin would win. There's no way they'd have a huge comeback like that and not have him win. I wouldn't mind seeing it.

Punk has to win imo. What would it look like if a guy with bad knees and neck who hasn't wrestled for ten years beats a current main eventer.

Now I know you could argue that Rock came back to beat Cena, but I think this is different, losing didn't hurt Cena but I think it could hurt Punk. Either way its a match that I'd definitely pay to see, WM 30 perhaps?

Maybe, if The Rock were to beat CM Punk in January, and John Cena won the Royal Rumble, then the other match could be Steve Austin and Punk. Which would maybe headline above the WWE title match. I'd say they might go for "Twice In A Lifetime" ha ha.

Austin had further surgery this year and JR pretty much ruled out any chance of him being ready for the next WM. Also I don't think he'd go on a card that already has The Rock and Brock. Better off to wait till 30 and let his and Punk's match take top billing.

Why in the name of God would Austin win that? That'd kill any momentum Punk would have and then he'd just retire again anyway! If anything they should do a WM 13 style match, just a brawl where Punk wins by making him pass out. But it won't happen. I have no idea what his TNA contract is like, but WWE should do everything in their power to get Kurt Angle to face Punk at WM. That would be incredible.

Austin should definitely win if it were to happen. That would be the whole angle. The old veteran coming back to teach the smart-mouthed punk (literally) a lesson. Would be pretty dumb after that to then have the veteran warrior lose. It's essentially a Rocky story.

Punk isn't going to lose any credibility with a defeat. The guy has had one of the longest title reigns in recent history and is established at this point.

It's Punk/Austin essentially having a sitdown interview/promo-duel moderated by JR, it's quite intense. It's part of the promotion for WWE '13, like a smaller version of the panel THQ did with JR before Summerslam this year:

If this actually happened, i'd have CM Punk go over Austin but then again id normally put the new star over the returning Mega Star (there are exceptions though, for instance when a return match has already been agreed) and dont think it would have to happen in this way because Punk would not neccesarily be hurt too much by losing to the Rattlesnake.

Obviously though it is more believable that the man who calls himself the best in the world wouldnt lose to someone who is all banged up and has been retired for a decade so i'd prefer for Punk to get the win but this fact could actually be worked into the feud if not the match also.

The Feud and Build would be epic and could be done in a number of ways although the Rocky 2 esque way of Punk forcing Austin to come back obviously makes a lot of sense whilst the rhetoric used could be all SCSA & his steveweisers etc vs Straight Edge Punk. Punk could obviously start saying that him being straight edge means he's better than Austin... hell this stuff writes itself so i wont go into detail but throw in a few What skits (maybe get D.Bryan in atleast 1 backstage one of these, No, What? No! What? No!...) and Pipebombs and your flying.

Then in the match itself the classic respect story would work well here. By that I mean that Punk who would have obviously run down Austin in the build up calling him a broken down drunk that couldnt hang with the best in the world etc would be won over by Austin and the fact that he just can't put him away. No matter what he does Austin just keeps kicking out and coming back at him. In some form then have Punk aknowledge this, a handshake or even just something as simple as a point or hand clap after having already gone throw the disbelief stage before Punk finally gets the win and gets what he desires the most a show of respect from Austin.

Obviously this involves a Punk face turn but that could be a one night thing if needs be with a beer/Pepsi bash in the ring after the match.
