    Hi,

I've a '95 Marin Team Titanium I built up a few years ago, mostly XT bits, Judy XC shocks, pretty much old-school across the board, that's been used for city cycling. It's in need of a service (bottom bracket has loosened up, as has headset, and everything just needs a decent tune-up) - and I've had variable degrees of success with bike shops in the city in the past.

Who should I go to for a decent bike service?

    cheers in advance.

    alastair

Bee Cycles in Dolphins Barn are excellent.

Cheers Daragh - that was pretty painless - even if it means going across the river!

Last few times i got anything done at a bike shop i regretted it. It is well worth buying a few tools yourself.

I asked the shop to replace a set of bearing cones on a front wheel, - the wheel came back so tight that it was unusable. I had to "tune' it myself.

When you get the bike fixed up you could stick it up on Adverts/eBay, it's a Classic MTB that would be worth a few quid...

I find Think Bike in Rathmines to be pretty good.

I'm happy to hang onto it - it's served me well for a few years now, and (I'd like to believe) the dull titanium frame helps keep it under the radar of thieves. I have also got a late Chehalis-built '99 Klein Adroit Race which I probably should sell as it's hardly ever used, but it's too pretty to let go.

P and K cycles in Christchurch gave me an excellent service recently for €30. Inithally thought that was a bit steep but well worth it imo.

A friend got her casual cycling bike serviced at one of the places recommended in this thread recently and ended being convinced to buy replacement parts to the value of about two thirds of the bike new, which I thought a bit odd tbh...

I left a bike in to get a back carrier fitted, and when I collected it they'd oiled the bike, tightened up the brakes and gears and generally set it right. Excellent mechanics, most/all continentals.

    Bugger!

My loose bottom bracket was in fact a cracked frame. The potential downside to using an old Ti frame I guess. Ebay frame watching for me it is then.

edit - Actually - I'm just going to do the sensible thing and start riding the Klein as an everyday bike. Daft to have a bike there unused.

Anyone want to buy a retro Ti Marin with a cracked hub?
