    Simple answer - Nothing
Complex answer - Street lighting and street maintenance.

commercial rates go to paying council outgoings. They are combined with government contribution, building levies and thankfully now a contribution for thos who actually get the benefits (general public)

Roads, Street lighting, Play grounds, school wardens, street cleaning, parks, hedge cutting, grass cutting, libraries, social housing etc. etc.

One of the reasons Rates in Ireland are amonsgst the highest in the world is that up to now, the actual beneficeries of the work never paid a cent and it was all down to businesses.
