Having trouble starting our2002 1.9D 206 these last few mornings. It takes ages of turning over before it will fire up. Heating it a few times makes no difference.

New battery and heater plugs in the last 24 months.
Once its started there is no problem stopping it and starting again.

Its due a service in about 2 months. Its driven by my dad mostly, on short trips and not driven very hard.

    Any ideas welcome

Are you getting a good 12volts on the glowplugs...could be glowplug relay.

If the heater plug side of things is ok then the usual cause of this problem on these engines is valve clearance. If you remove the cam cover and check the clearances you will most likely find that the exhaust tappets are tight. It's a big enough job to sort out, they need to be re-shimmed which means removing the camshaft.

After looking a bit further and a test of the glow plugs showed the 4 of them not working. Just going to get 4 now. Hope that cures the problem.
