    Hi

    i am on holidays at the moment & after a day at the beach about 3 weeks ago, i got swimmers ear. I went to doctor & took the medicine he gave me, & my ear is now healed, but now i am getting dizzy spells on a daily basis.

    i am in a non-english speaking country so it was hard communicating with the doctor.

    i've looked on internet but cannot find 'after effect' of swimmers ear.

    i understand medical advice is not permitted on here, i am just wondering if anyone who had swimmers ear also experienced dizzy spells later on, & if so, how long did it last.

    Thanks

    I have never got it, even after 25yrs + of swimming. My advise would be speak to a medical professional if you have any concerns

    40 + years of swimming with multiple ear ailments. Never got dizzy. Since your balance is based in your inner-ear, I would try to find any doctor ASAP.

    Did you try ringing the Irish Consulate to see if they could direct you to a local English speaking doctor ?

    thanks for the replies,

    I went to see an ear doctor this morning in the hospital, i brought a local friend along to translate, the doctor prescribed me medicine for Meniere's disease;

    "Ménière's disease ( /meɪnˈjɛərz/)[1] is a disorder of the inner ear that can affect hearing and balance to a varying degree. It is characterized by episodes of vertigo, low pitched tinnitus, and hearing loss."

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A9ni%C3%A8re's_disease

    The doc said that my swimmers ear could or could not have been the cause, as it could have been caused by other factors.

    So now i have medicine to take for 7 days (Merislon tablets) so hopefully i'll get back to normal asap.

    Swimmer's ear is an infection in the outer ear canal, which runs from your eardrum to the outside of your head. It's often brought on by water that remains in your ear after swimming, creating a moist environment that aids bacterial growth.
