How can I make my teeth whiter without teeth whiting?

I want my teeth to be whiter but I can't find a good way. I want to look better. Any advice?

Good cleaning with a dentist, apart from that it like me wanting to be thinner without diet or exercise.

I read somewhere that adding a little baking soda to your toothepaste can help whiten teeth. I have done this only once but didn't notice a difference. obviously everything needs time though! Coffee and smoking are the worst offenders for staining.
