This is why you should always take a denent spin in a car before buying including motorway speed and things like junctions on hills to test what it's like day to day

You say it's running rough, what makes you think that? Anything in particular?

Reving at over 3000 rpm at 100kmph
    3600 and above at 120

sounded kinda loud on motorway more revvy than im used to. Im hoping its nothing big. I was driving a 2l before and the rev counter was below all these counts

car sounds a bit dogged when i pulled into the drive. wheezy like

    That sounds normal to me.

    It's wheezy because its a 1.6 Golf

    120k miles 01 1.6
went for the 1.6 cause the 1.4 is underpowered

Sounds normal to me, running rough would be something different entirely.

Those revs don't seem too out of place to me either. Relax:)

Cheers ill give it a day or two and see how it goes.
Breaks are spongy and theres a knocking from the front but theyre more general maintenance than engine issues.(i seem like an idiot)

just found the old nct fail sheet, failedon high idle C02. Car hasnt done more than 500 miles since nct in may. All the research and I still cant buy a car that works.

And yes i read Limerick mans guide :)

cheers spig. thats what I got. man what a weak ass engine.

I always thought that the 1.6 would pull along a golf, perhaps not.

It seems really to be geared quite short, my 1.4 clio is doing less revs at the same speeds.

Maybe the 1.6 16v... I remember out horse-powerin a 1.6 Golf on the motorway in a standard 1.2 Bravo, the driver did not look happy as I pulled away :pac:

all depend how much you paid for it... if it was regular market price, than lemon.. if it was half cheaper , then you shouldnt expect car in good condition. if you know somebody with wag-com get connect and do diagnostics. german cars not always show error on dash, but scanner will find what sensor faulty. high rev emission fail would be caused by number reasons.... lambda, catalytic converter , small leak in exhaust.
spongy brake pedal would indicate air in brake system or stuck brake calipers. That car would need some TLC.

If car is in such condition, would suggest do full service - oil, oil filter, air filter, petrol filter, gearbox oil, sparkplugs, brake checks with system bleeding, timing belt with waterpump and rest of belts, engine compression test, plus proper computer diagnostics + suspension diagnostics and repairs.

that car will be a bit of money pit, all depends how much you paid for it and what you planing do with it, keep or sell.
