VRT - quick question

Hope someone can answer this. Recently moved from the north to the south, and I VRTd my car today and have the document now to go to the tax office and pay my motor tax and get my plates etc.

However, I forgot to detach the slip from my UK V5 document that gets sent to Swansea to tell them that the vehicle has been permanently exported from the UK.

Do I need to go back and get that part of my V5 or will the irish revenue do that for me??

    Thanks

I assume the car was registered in your name in the north.

Irish revenue should inform NI autorities, but you will never be certain.
The best what you can do now is just ring DVLNA (or whatever they are called in the north) and ask what to do in that case. Maybe just a letter stating that you exported the car will suffice.

Yes it was registered in my name. I will do that, just dont want them post me a document that I need to send back and charge me for the privilege. My own fault for not detaching the part of the V5. I will see what they say.

    Thanks

The Revenue commisioners will notify the DVLA (or DVLNI) of the change in status. Any car I imported, I gave the complete V5, including the export bit, to the revenue when I re-registered the car....within a week or so the car would show up as exported on the DVLA website.
Even though it was your own car you imported the same sequence should happen.
Give it a week or two and check your old reg no. on the UK (or NI) site.
