As much as I'm looking forward to this show and the many great match ups on this card , In my opinion i think the fight between Brian Long and Aslan is going to be a cracker of a fight, I can't wait to see this.
Brian is training his arse off for this and fully intends to come back to Cork with the title. I personally think Brian have the skills and the Muay thai know how on how to beat Aslan. I've seen Aslan fight many times and I'm a great fan of his but i think its the right time for Brian. ;) Thoughts anyone ?

It should be a good fight alright, aslan is training hard aswel and also wants the title :)
we will just have to see on the night
but iam goina say Aslan via stoppage (only because i know he only needs to land 1 good shot and it doesnt matter who it is they are goin down)

Yeah, I'll take a bet on this too if anyone's interested. I'd be open to discussion on the amount.

Brian's a good fighter. Smart. Uses his kicks well. Aslan has those attributes too and a history of stopping top end Irish fighters. As mugger says too....he'll have plenty of time to land heavy shots in a 5x3.

Ive my wager with Pat already Khannie so you'll have to find a like minded candidate like myself to lose your money on :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

If Brian can live with Aslans power I think he could nick it. I'm a big fan of Aslan but think he's better suited to K-1 style rather than pure Thai.

He'd be the first Irishman to do so, don't think another Irish fighter has lasted more than 2 rounds with Aslan? (open to corrections there).

Its going to be a cracker of a fight either way! Getting really excited about this show now :)

He has stopped all Irish opponents in 2 or under, some top names too, Gary Ormond, Paul Norton, Johnny Sheehan.

i totally agree with your statement there , Brian has being in with way bigger lads way above his weight bracket and faired very well , In Muay Thai style Brian is way ahead of Aslan and i think he'll pick away at his scores , where Aslan in my opinion is more of a K-1 style fighter and comes in looking for the KO. Im nearly 100% sure Brian was never on the mat , ill find out later. Im still confident Brain can do this and surprise a lot of ye out there. He's a huge talent ;)

im gonna be cheeky now and say BRAIN (sorry Denise) Brian :D:D:D, is only warming up for his title fight with Alan Gannon in November at his true fight weight at 67kg , he's stepping up 2 kg for this fight and I'm gonna sound very cocky here but i still feel if brian goes beyond the 2nd round he take this fight.

don't think there will be any size difference as Aslan walks round 70-72kgs and fights at 70 no problem that's why he stays at that weight, but he has gone to 67 and 65kg before,if he wins the 70kg i would like to see him win the 67kg as well :)

only 7 long days to go ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,674 ✭✭✭Peetrik

1ner on Aslan. How does this work?
Actually some one PM for the gambling, Im sick of losing out not knowing who to talk to :)

You have to find someone gullible enough to bet against Aslan first Jono :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 105 ✭✭gregmarah

hahaha @ Pat , id say you will struggle to find anyone here on this to have a flutter with you Caiden Flabby Jacket unless they are from Cork :D:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 62 ✭✭mugger

Aslan won on Points,it was a great fight, brian did really well but Aslan was to Strong and won,Brian was saved by the bell in the 2nd round but showed get heart and didn't let it stop his plan.i think he will do a lot better in his next title fight at 67kg

Well done to Bridgestone Gym and the new Irish Champion Aslan on a great win, Saturday night, he was just to strong for Brian on the night, we trained to a plan to beat Aslan it just got a little off rail by that sweet punch that gave Brian the count in the 2nd Fair play to Brian who was up like a light even though he got caught clean,
The famous Quote by Joe Louis comes to mind
‘’ Everyone boxer has a Plan till they get hit ‘’
Brian is only 18 and has a plenty of time to improve and tone his skills and get stronger, and become a Champion him self in time 63.5 to 67kgs I think is Brian's best weight class, the only way to become a champion is to beat a champion fighter which Aslan proved he was on Saturday night.

ye i didn't think he was that young, fair play to him,and he is the only Irish man to go the distance with Aslan,so maybe they will meet again soon

i was a great show over all , some great fights , Im gutted for Brian cause i know how badly he wanted this and trained his arse off for it. I think it will stand to him in the future as I'm positive he will be a very successful fighter and will be Irish champ at the very least. fair play to Aslan he's a strong strong man , and a really nice guy to. Congrats on his win . BTW i hunted down Pat Hickey to give him my winnings at the club afterwards just incase ye think i fecked off :)

Haha he did indeed, and it was actually in notes instead of coins as I was expecting. Greg you're a gent and a scholar.

you had a great win yourself Pat , totally dominated in the clinch , he had no answer to you , well done ;)

Can't believe how young Brian is! That was fight of the night for me (though obviously I missed a lot of the fights). I thought Aslan answered all the questions about his Muay Thai and I thought Brian did very well to recover from that 8 count and go the distance.

Ste's fight was interesting - the Turkish lad landed some very impressive looking hands in the first but Stevie's straight knees and solid left kicks were landing consistently throughout the 3 rounds. They just (very clearly) broke his spirit in the third.

I was very disappointed with how my own fight ended. I think both myself and Tony were enjoying the fight. That's the nature of the game unfortunately.

The venue was decent too. Changing rooms were spacious enough which was nice. You'd miss the ringside though. I loved that place. Pity it went out of business.
