My hubby is looking for old worn tyres that still hold air, to be used on a trailer.

No bigger than 5.60 x 15 (155R15 is the 'modern' equivelent) He thinks these are generally used on older Beetles.

Any ideas where he might find some? Thanks.

Either a scrapyard or else cheap remoulds from a tyre fitters is probably better than rooting around from the sake of a few €.
