    Are they holstein or british fresian? Generally KO% would be about 55% But it can be hard to get them into big live weights, like over 600kg, 55% of 600 is 330kg carcase weight. Teagesc are having an open day in johnstown castle next week, might be worth a look.

    If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

    they'd eat some ration to kill 55%, 250kg live gain in 6 months, get DOC on speed dial

    Most of these bulls kill out around 50% the question what market should you target and what the cost of finishing will be and what will the price be like. You are targeting early April as finishing date what do you expect to feed them.

    If you intend finishing in april are you intending housing now and growing them first and then starting tio finish after christmas. have you ever done this before. What sort of rations and what price are they now. I have some similar fresians bulls. If I finish out of shed I would consider targeting early/mid may. They are outside at present I think that they average 360-370kgs. I am leting them outside on grass until November 1 I expect to house at about 385kgs.

    I will then feed them good silage and 2kgs 14.5% molasses with mineral/vitimans.I will feed like this until the end of january, over the 90 days I am hoping that they will put on 70 kgs. giving me a target weight of about 460 kgs. I think that this will cost 1.3 euro/day so 117 euro's.

    For 100 days from start of February I will build up onto about 6-7kgs ration and good silage and increase this to about 9 kgs towards the end of the ninty days. I predict that they will eat about 0.8 tonnes and will gain about 1.2kgs/day so 120kgs. The cost per day assuming ration @ 300/ton would be about 2.8 euro/day so 280 euro's. This would have these bulls at 600kgs KO50% so 300DW.

    Finishing costs from Nov will be about 400 euro and another 50 for sundry costs. what will they need to make to leave a profit will depend on what they cost or what value they would be to sell now.

    @ 4/kg thew would make 1200 euro's
    @3.8/Kg they would make 1140 euro's
    @ 4.2/Kg they would make 1260 euro's

    @4/kg every 5kgs + or- will be 20 euro's

    ration for the 100 days ever 10 euro+ or- will be 8 euro's

    What sort of a mix are you using to get a good eneough fat cover on them with 8kgs cas i would be on 12kg for 120 days and struggling to get good fat cover

    Last year I used a 30% maize 35% barley 18% rapseed 11% soya hulls 5% molasses and 1% minerals. I am targeting mid may/june hoping factories will not be fussy when they average 2+ I will kill them. It about profit not about fat score.This year I am hoping to use a soya hull/barley maize and use 21% molasses to provide protein to keep costs down

    Farmers will have to be careful this year fellas will be fair sick of feeding expensive meal in february/march. This happened in England the year before last and farmers were killing cattle from late jan-april and guess what the factories droped the price.

    I am not 100% sure I will finish these yet my other option is to put back to grass in march and feed 6-7kgs outside for 10 weeks. However they will be 480-500kg going back to grass and all would be over 24 months when I sell.
