Installed a ground system in my previous house 6/7 years ago. Advice then was that I would have to power it from the mains electricity. You need to have power to run it when you need it (so cant rely on wind). It also needs a heavy load when starting off so prob rules out solar. Improtant to run it off night saver rates.

I have experience with these and my generic answer is each case must be evaluated and all the factors taken into account. To run it 100% successfully on geothermal the ground would have to be taken into account. If you were drilling down to lay to pipes vertical which sees the best results would have to be contracted to a drilling company and you would need to make sure they have experience in this and can warrant their work as any contractor should. There are alot of heat pumps out now which are very efficient and siemens have a great range. I would rule out running the pumps on a wind turbine because you cant guarantee to have a supply of wind unless you start installing batterys or sell back to the grid which starts to get pretty expensive. But there is alot of alternative options. Best bet in my opinion no matter which system you use is to install a buffer tank which will allow you to update or change your system in the future or add stoves etc.
