Just bought an Audi A6 2012 S Line . Audi Manual states that i should get 1200 kilometers to empty. 60 Litre Capacity tank and i'm only getting 820 Kilometers.
Does anybody have this problem or shed some light on what the problem might be?

    Thanks.

    Bobby

I dont think you'll ever get 1200 km out of a full tank unless you drove Dublin-Belfast and back again until your tank emptied.

i have a 2.0d E90 BMW here that will indicat 990km when necked with diesel, in reality it will do about 800 with city driving.

I also have an E60 525d that will indicate 700km when necked but in reality will do 600km in city driving.

They probably drove the car like a nun to hit those figures cruising along motorways at a steady 80KPH no harsh breaking, no air con, heated seats etc. :D

If OP calculated consumption properly, instead of that stupid distance per tank calculation, he'd know exactly what the car is doing.

That's 38 mpg if you are using the full 60L for the 820 km.

That sounds poor but I figure you are burning a bit less than the 60L.

You firstly need to do a proper mpg calc by brimming / driving / brimming again.

I think 1200 km is fantasy though. I think my petrol Audi is supposed to do around 40 mpg according to Audi. No way realistic at all.

I filled my 2.0 TDi in Cork on the ATWR weekend, I drove hard enough for most of the weekend and got 1283km for 65 litres of juice.

Manufacturer's figures are never real world figures, they are made generous to make the car more appealing. Also be aware that a new car needs time to bed in, the car's ECU will learn and adapt to your driving style and fuel economy can improve.

Do they not have 70litre tanks?

Loads of other factors you need to take into account

    - is it manual or auto
    - do you do mostly city or motorway driving
    - do you drive aggressively or passively
    - do you run revs high before shifting etc

There are ways to drive way more efficiently than you currently do. 1200km is nun-esque.

Audi garage took my car and drove it for a week and told me there was nothing wrong however they could only get 880km for a tank

Best to work out the old fashioned way what the consumption is like.
How much fuel is used for 880kms? That is really what you need to find out. Are you sure 60 litres has been consumed?

op my 09 a4 2.0tdi get on average between 500-520 miles between city/national road/motorway on 3/4 tank (60 litre tank).

Especially on longer distance travel (Even at higher speed), the mpg improves quite a bit.

I'd say your car is under performing alright.

Brand new diesels do take a little while to bed in. Get a few thousand KM on the clock and it should start to improve a bit.

It's a 65 litre tank as well and based on the combined consumption figure of 4.9l/100km that should give 1,326 km to empty (if my maths are correct and that's no gaurantee at this time of the morning).

Manufacturer figures are very, very hard to replicate in real world driving. If you drive it gently and with practically no speed changes, you might just hit the combined figures. I've managed to beat them a few times, but my journey is more or less all motorway.

I remember when I got my first new diesel engined car it took about 1500 miles for the engine to settle in and the consumption improved after that. Does anyone remember the "old days" of "running in the engine". Don't panic yet. Also ensure your calculations are correct. Fill car to the top, drive for a specified distance and refill car to same level then do your sums!!

He said he has 12,000 kms on it. I'd say it's well run in.
OP, that's poor enough alright. Folk I know with that engine in new Passats are getting around 1100kms for a tank, and I'll assume that the tank is the same size as in the A6. The A6 should be similar weight to the Passat thanks to it's use of Aluminium in a lot of places. Why don't you ask for another one for a week to compare?

I would have said thats very very decent for a diesel engine that size in city driving. Good on ya

tbh your economy figures sound perfectly normal to what I'd expect

2009 A6 170bhp 2.0d here I get 1050-1200k from mine depending on whether its city or motorway.

The 2009 model had the 70L tank, the op's is a 65L according to parkers.

The A6 has a more powerful engine and is bigger/heavier than the A4 and probably has a different size fuel tank. Mpg is non comparative between the two to be honest.

The 2.0 TDi engine in the new A6 had improvements and power increase as well as a different gearbox over the 2.0 TDi found in the older model A6.

i agree it is not directly comparable but it should at least give some form of indication.. thought I'd mentioned for the benefit of OP.

Are you using the Efficiency setting in your Audi Drive Select when trying to obtain the longer distances?

Correct but the mpg is improved in the new A6 by nearly ten percent over mine so it should balance out the smaller fuel tank.
