    Hi there,
I'm looking at buying a set of golf clubs for my boyfriend who is a beginner and was just wondering what brand of clubs would be the best to buy?? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Really comes down to how much money you have to spend really.
Most brands of maufacturers have a line of Game improvement clubs -
basically bigger heads, large cavitys in back of club, wide soles,
bigger sweetspot on clubface which makes them easier to hit and very
    forgiving on off centre strikes.
Top brands would be eg. ping K15 ,Taylor Made Rocketballz
More affordable would be eg. Cleveland Mashies or Nike Vrs.
My advice would be to get advice from a good golf store, as there is such a large selection of clubs out there.(ie.you dont want someone who just wants to sell the most expensive clubs, a cheaper set with custom fitting may be adviseable depending on how tall your boyfriend is.?)
Hope this is of some help to you.

Tbh you've a dificult task there. He really needs some sort of basic fitting for size and height and then its about what he thinks looks well. You might be better off getting him a nice bag with a voucher in it for a set of clubs. We guys love to go shopping for these things so he'd get the thrill of the chase as well as the final product.

If you are based in Dublin then Halpenny or Mc Guirks, best option would be a voucher. Not sure if you have done much research price wise but you are looking at over €500 for a lot of sets.

    A beginner? Buy 2nd hand.

Fitting? Unless he's 5 feet nothing or 6 foot 6 inches don't bother - he's unlikely make the same swing twice.

Custom fitting for clubs for a complete beginner would be a waste of money. I'm playing a while now and I think I'm just approaching the stage where I have the consistency for a fitting, even at that, I think I'll hold off for a another year or so until I'm really sure. So I wouldn't go down that route.

Seeing as it is a present, you may not like the idea of getting something second hand.... However, a good set of 2nd hand "game improvement/beginners" clubs would be my suggestion. If you explain the situation in a golf store, they MAY steer you in the right direction, however, they'll probably try to offer you a new set of cheaper clubs as they'll be making more money from that.

I'm not sure what budget you have but if I was you I'd get a fairly decent golf bag (I got a nice one in Ha'penny golf for €60) or a mid range putter and tell your bf that you will contribute the rest of your budget towards a set of clubs for him. Tell him that it may be best to get a good set of second hand clubs....advice above.....
If he's anyway into golf, he'll love learning about the different options out there and the search alone will be a thrill. (I still look at clubs on a weekly basis and there's absolutely no need for me to change)

That's my 2cents anyway, good luck with it, and get used to not seeing him for 5-6 hours every weekend! :)

try the Cleveland Hibore Irons. got them this year and feel pretty good about my golf.

even if you top the ball it still travels a good distance and its easier to get the ball into the air and hit a shot like you would expect.

However I would get him a voucher as shopping for golf clubs is the best part.

would agree with above, get him maybe a bag and a voucher

Mike12 has pretty much nailed it. Voucher and a trip into McGuirks or Halpenny.
