I am applying for a job and it's a 6month contract. The details are such. I just want to know if the salary is for the 6 months, or is it annualised, i.e...are they saying if you worked 12 months that would be your salary but because your only working six it will be half that.

I imagine the salary for 6months will be €11,250 and 10 days leave. Although it is a good job for a good company and as the shifts are late nights it is conceivable that they would pay more.

This is all the info it gives in the ad. Any ideas. Thanks

    Contract Status: 6 month contract
    Basic Salary: €22,500
    Annual Leave: 20 days - pro-rated

Does 45k per year for the job sound reasonable?

The words pro-rated tells you all you need to know. But, the norm is pro-rata regardless.

If they were going to pay more surely this would be mentioned? If you place an advert and go to the trouble of mentioning a salary, why would you not mention additional pay for night shifts?

I worked the night shift for a few weeks when I returned to Ireland and I was looking for something more permanent. I did not get paid any more than day shift workers, although we did get an additional break and a small out-of-hours allowance (I'm talking a few quid a day). So it is quite normal for night shifts to be paid the same as day shifts.

There is no automatic higher pay for night workers...this is entirely dependent upon the terms of the night worker's contract of employment, and many companies don't pay anything extra for night shifts.
