Sky HD box problem

So my Sky box seems to be knackered.
Yesterday I noticed that the planner was empty, all recorded programmes gone and any I set to record were not showing up in it but everything else was working fine.

I unplugged it at the mains for a minute and rebooted only to find it now switches itself off after the intro screen that says "Sky HD please wait"

I tried updating the software and left it unplugged overnight in case of overheating but it's still the same today.

Has anybody else had this problem?
Is there a fix or is it terminal?

Having same problem with just my sky + box not recording properly and all the anytime programmes are like a scratched DVD.. wonder has this anything to do with the swithover to Digital at end of month.

It has nothing to do with switchover. If you have "scratched DVD" that suggests a weak signal such as an old rusty dish that has slightly moved out of alignment. It may also be a dodgy cable to the dish. Water may have gotten in one of the cables affecting the signal.

Check the signal strength menu and post up signals for dish 1 and dish 2 connectors both in terms of strength and quality.

I got mine sorted anyway :)
Lost all my recorded programmes but I'm guessing that would have happened anyway had I sent the box back to them.

If anyone else has the same problem in op:

    1 Disconnect at mains.

2 Press and hold both the left and right arrows either side of the select button on top of box.

3 Plug back in at mains and continue to press on both arrows until the circle on the front of the box flashes blue, this may take up to a minute.

4 Press and release the select button between both arrows. The blue circle should start to turn anticlockwise.
When it stops turning, leave for a few minutes and then power up the box and hopefully you're back in business :)

Worked a charm for me but as I said, your planner will be empty.

No signal on input 2 suggests cable 1 is fine and the dish is fine. Therefore it is definitely a connector or cabling problem on cable 2. the simplist thing is to plug out the box and disconnect dish 2 connection. Check for rust, water, a strand of the outside touching the centre pin, the centre pin too short etc.

A quick test is to swap dish 1 and dish 2 cables. Does the signal move over?

Finally if safe to do so trace each cable seperately to the dish. Is there a faulty connection at the dish? Has water entered the cable, if so replace the whole cable.
