FD cable = carbon fibre saw

My FD cable snapped mid spin last week, so I coiled up the loose bit securely and made my way home in the small ring. Turned the bike upside down and saw that the cable had snapped just at the point where it disappeared through the frame below the bottom bracket. Worse than that, the constant back and forward travel of the cable had acted like a wire cheese-cutter, sawing a slot about 2mm long through its guide and the CF frame. :( See pic below.

Left it into the LBS and they reckoned that the damage was minor, and fitted a new cable and a new guide. I suppose I was fortunate that the cable snapped when it did, before it sawed through the entire frame. It's not an area that ever got a lot of attention, but it'll be given a closer inspection from now on, most likely when the bike gets a wash.

So a friendly word of warning. If you've got the same FD cable routing through the bottom bracket as me, keep an eye on things down there. It may stop someone from sawing their frame in half.
