I have just heard that if I wish to travel to the USA I must book my flight 48 hours in advance.

    Is this true?

    I have a current ESTA

    No, it's not true.

    Thanks for your reply.

After a lot of hassle I eventually got to speak to a lady in Aer Lingus.

Because my ESTA is up to date I just need to fill in the Advanced Passenger Information details when booking and I should have no problems.

Due to circumstances I will have to book my flight at very short notice.

No need to do it 48 hours in advance, but short notice bookings might mean some extra questions at immigration, that's all :)
