The S3 - free unlimited music downloads?

Someone told me today that the reason the S3 is so popular is because you can have unlimited songs on your phone and they are all free? This sounds too good to be true?

I have never considered the above phone because I don't know much about it...but that is a serious contender if it is true.

In comparison to the iphone what else does it have to offer...or where does it exceed the iphone...

or where does it exceed the iphone...

    Everywhere.

In answer to the main question. I have the S3 and don't have free music, but I assume your friend was speaking of an App that allowed it, something like Spotify.

Zedge is a nice little app that lets you download full length "sounds" for free*

    *bar your data charges

Jango is an app that gives free music (kind of). You tell it what music you like then it keeps on playing music that is in that genre. You don't download the music. It's more like a radio.

As to where the S3 is better than the iPhone. Really?

Thanks for that. Yes, 'really' I don't know much about the S3, all I hear is that it is way better than the iPhone but nobody elaborates on this...like when I compare the descriptions of both phones they are pretty similiar, so what is so great about the S3?

To the casual user, they are both very similar. If you sit there and read the tech specs then there differences everywhere, are you going to notice it, most likely not.

In regards to downloading free music, if can be done for both phones, but i think the s3 allows you to download P2P files straight to the phone, i myslef consider that a problem tbh as you can download a virus etc

iPhone you have to download to PC, drag and drop to iTunes and then sync the phone, again a problem for some, no problem for others.

its a matter of choice on what OS you prefer OP.

virus over utorrent? in all my years i've never had an issue with this, well as long as you don't click an exe but even then it'd have to be a mobile specific attack and afaik they are very VERY rare

Sorry, I'd said 'really' because there are loads of comparisons even on this forum let alone the whole internet. Here's a post I did a while ago about why I preferred Android. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=80977282&postcount=5

That's just for Android. Specifically for the S3 I don't think both phones are pretty similar. Android is pretty different from IOS. The S3 has a much bigger screen. I haven't seen the iPhone5 yet side by side but I've held the 4S & the S3 beside each other. I really prefer the size of the S3. The S3 has a removable battery and microSD card slot. That's a benefit for a lot of people.

As for the downloading of torrents. That can be done on all Android devices so it wouldn't specifically be why the S3 is popular. You can buy a much cheaper Android phone if that was all what you wanted to do with it.

Reasons why I think the S3 specifically is doing well.

Android has overtaken IOS. A couple of years ago if you took out an android phone and showed it to some people they'd ask you if it was an iPhone. Some people used to think that iPhones were the only smartphones. Samsung have really moved themselves up to become a brandname for Android.

Upgradability from other Android devices. If somebody buys a cheap Android phone just to get by and then gets used to the apps when they're looking to upgrade and want to move their apps / data they can either start new by going to iPhone or they can move up to a fancier Android and keep their apps / data. If you want a cheap device for your kids there is no really cheap option with Apple to get you hooked. There is in Android.

Marketing. Samsung have been marketing the hell out of their phones. They have small cheap Android, high spec phones, the Note, several tablets.
HTC used to be number one for Android and are still very popular. But their recent phones went a bit Appley (no microSD card slot and no removable battery). I was 50/50 between the S3 and HTC One. Not having a microSD card slot swung it for me. I'd guess a lot of people were similar. Before my S3 I'd had two HTC phones which were great.

The recent US court case. I know this cost Samsung a lot of money but it got them a hell of a lot of advertising. The night the announcement was made about Apple winning the 1bn it was on the RTE news at 9 and I was in my folks house. They had the iPhone and S3 side by side for about 2 or 3 minutes. I asked my folks who know shag all about phones which one looked better. They told me the bigger one. I'm sure TV stations all over the world had similar segments.

Apples suing everything that can be sued. Apple used to have a cultish following. They could do no wrong (even when they did). Now they're suing anybody they can and some people who would have bought anything Apple bought without thinking about it have fallen out of love with them.

All of that is just my opinion though with little facts behind it so I could have it all wrong :D
