Mature Student in The Netherlands

Has anyone any experience of studying in the Netherlands, particularly as a mature student, or studying something along the lines of Art & or Photography.
Which colleges are the more reputable?
Are there any grants etc available?
What are the pitfalls?
I don't really know what else to ask....
It seems the fees are usually in the region of 1700 a year?
On campus accommodation costs?
Do they start any courses in the new year?
How far in advance do you need to apply for a course?
Is it hard to get evening or weekend work to keep the purse strings form too much strain?
As you can tell this is my first point of call on this topic, but all advice greatly appreciated.
