Hi folks I hope someone here can help me.

I currently have a VW caddy but we are having a new baby and I need to get something that I can fit two baby seats into and also my tools for work so I have it narrowed down to a hyundai santa fe.

My question is in relation to MPG. How bad are the petrol models compared to the diesel? because I can afford a 03 petrol whereas I can prob only afford a 01 diesel! But theres no point getting a petrol if its gonna cost me an arm and a leg to run.

Or is it possible to convert a commercial santa fe back to a passenger one?? cause the commercial ones are a good bit cheaper.

    Any opinions welcome.
    Thanks

Sis has one. I drove it once. Lurchy. Didn't rush to drive it again. Hers is petrol and does mid-late 20's, it has been reliable though and her idea of a service is to go to the local SS for a machine wash. Literally. The key word for me here though is lurchy.

not great to drive to be honest, probably one of the least enjoyable to drive SUV's of that size (diesel)

dont know about the petrol ones but I wouldnt recommend using it as a daily driver on petrol.

    whats your budget ?

about 2500 - 3000. Dont care about what its like to drive really just care about how expensive it is to run and that it can carry my kids and tools etc.

you could always try haggle these down , but I think the big brother of the santa fe, the Kia Sorento might be the job, the 2.5 diesel is a much better engine and does 28-30mpg

heres one for 3750 with all the toys (leather, climate control, electric seats, heated seats & mirrors) http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/3941804

edit that one has no NCT , but theres a lot around the same price on donedeal.

We have a 02 Diesel for over 5 years now. MPG is somewhere between 30/35, but it does mainly short journeys. You will find any jeep 'heavy' on fuel compared to a caddy!, bigger body, wheels etc, but it has been a god send with kids and load lugging etc. I think they are a good value for money jeep. Sorento Clutch/Flywheel replacement is very very expensive up until recently anyway as parts were 'main dealer' only, we had very little trouble from our Santa Fe, but we look after it well& I do know a little about motor vehicles!.
