I have often encountered bikes on display in bike shops called cruisers that to me just look like hybrids i.e flat bar road bikes with skinny tyres. Whats the difference between the two?

Cruisers generally have swept back handlebars and a slacker seat tube, and often fewer or no gears.

The rider is essentially rotated back over the bottom bracket, with more weight on the arse and less on the handlebars. Consequently the saddles tend to be cushier.
