"TV is connected to a wall port"

What's at the other end of the wall port? Do you mean that you have a Satellite dish and no aerial?

Have you tried the button on the top right of the remote control to put the TV into "DTV" mode?

Saorview only works from an aerial. The Saorview signal does not come from a dish.

. . . when I tuned it in it only gave me channels 1-4 and not 3e & Rte news 24. Tv is connected to tv wall port.

Will the TV still keep the 1-4 channels when the switchover happens?

If these are good quality off-air terrestrial analogue channels & you definitely have no Saorview, would I be right in thinking that you're in the Mt. Leinster service area (southeast) & you do actually have an aerial somewhere?

Just wondering why you'd want to hold onto these 4 channels after switchover, as I would expect them to be pretty poor quality with no aerial.

Apologies, checked the mother in-law's house and yes there is an aerial at the back of the chimmney which I didnt notice before, embarrassed smiey :) We are in the Midlands (Athlone) area.

All she wants is just the basic channels. Aerial is about 7 years old.

Definitely no Saorview box. Specs of the TV say "Saorview approved to work with the Irish digital signal." Is it something do with aerial?

On remote when bring up the option for different inputs it shows antenna but not Digital.

What happens when you use the ch+/ch- buttons? On my LG, if on analogues, it'll hop 1,2,3,4, then move on to Digital 1,2 up to 8.

Also, you'll know if it's analogue you're getting at the moment because RTE channels will have the "24 October" text onscreen all the time.

I would not think the issue is the TV

I have this TVs lttle brother - the 26 inch model and it definetly works fine with Saorview including the new digital text

On remote press Setting. This should bring up main menu. Then select options Then initial settings.

If Asked set country to republic of Ireland and scan type to "digital and analogue"

Watch carefully to see if zero digital channels found. If so your aerial might need re-alignment. I would say the TV was not set up properly during initial scan. If you see "factory reset" in the menu try that.

Also look for installation, manual/auto scan those sorts of things.

There is a basic manual on the LG site but the manual supplied with the TV will probably be better:

    You have read the manual?

In that case, reception is almost certainly from the Cairn Hill transmitter & an aerial that gets the analogue channels will also get Saorview.

The "24 October" text is not onscreen at all so that looks promising. After I do 1-4 I get channel 5 on the skybox and that's it.

ZG, the only options from memory are antenna and cable to scan from but I wont be able to get over for a few days try. Will give thee factory reset a shot and see again.

Peter, that sounds very good and promising to. Will just have to wait and see I guess.

Does the TV aerial lead go into the Sky box and from there into the TV?

If so it could be that the Sky box is blocking the Saorview signal.

Try changing the "RF Channel Number" the box uses. Try channel 21
    Instructions here:

If "RF Channel Number" was set to 47, then that is definitely the problem!

The Cairn Hill signal in Athlone is very strong, a poster here a few weeks ago said he is getting TV with an indoor aerial but most people have a cheap contract aerial on the roof.
