I bought 2 of the Blue Line DTT scart gizmos and got a shock when I saw the 2 pin power adaptor, ugly and its such a shape you cant fit the 2 pin to 3 pin adaptor to it, a bummer as with the shaver plug adaptor it sticks out a mile. And the instructions were in polish.

So where can I buy a 3 pin power adaptor that has output of 5v --- 2000mA?

    gbc

Expensive in Maplin. Ebay is cheaper but make sure it's a box that has figure of 8 socket and not a Wall Wart. 2A 5V "Wall Warts" are too big if they have sensible filtering and really meet CE.

    Other option
    Take case apart of PSU
put existing PSU internals in a plastic tube with end caps (PVC waste pipe) and soldered on mains flex with separate UK/IRL plug.

Light the touch paper, and retire. :D

A relative of the wife recently got someone who was coming over from America to bring him over a new iPad. Opened the box and found a 2 pin power supply, so as he hadnt any adaptors to fit this he simply cut off the 2 pin power supply and fitted a 13amp plugtop in it,s place. He plugged it in and as he describes it ,there was a little puff of smoke. bye bye ipad.
Now being the ingenious person that he is he simply wrapped it all up again, minus the power lead and sent it back with the relatives when they were returning, they took it to the apple store, said it was faulty and it was duly replaced with a new one. True story.

possibly something to that the yanks use 110v we use 220v? The plug wouldn't make any difference.

Dont know much about iPads to be honest , but the new one is working fine, must follow up on that and see what he is using.

No doubt the PSU was INSIDE the USA plug. So he put 220V AC down a cable meant to have about 5V DC.

Those iPad psu are very well engineered. The basic unit is a little brick to which a small plug is attached. There are different plugs for each country, and the plug clips on. The unit will take 90-240vac, and give 2a at 5v.

Just the job for the OP, except for the other end. It terminates in a USB plug.

    Might be a good solution.

Here is a euro type version.

can i not just plug it in to the 2 pin of the 3 pin outlet by depressing the earth pin as this opens the other 2 slots and it fits very tightly. what is the drawback?

and the picture on these yokes is fab.
